About Panikkawila Bungalow

Panikkawila Bungalow occupies the northernmost corner of Wilpattu's accommodation network. This is the most remote bungalow — furthest from the main entrance and closest to the park's wild northern boundary. Fewer vehicles make the journey here, which means more exclusive access.

The bungalow sits near Panikkawila, a lake system that's particularly favored by sloth bears. The surrounding forest is a mix of dense scrub and open woodland, creating ideal habitat for bears, leopards, and elephants.

With two bedrooms and the capacity for 6 guests, Panikkawila is excellent for groups who want a shared experience without sacrificing the privacy of separate rooms. The remote location means you often have entire game drives without seeing another vehicle.

Vida Silvestre en Panikkawila Bungalow

Panikkawila is Sri Lanka's best location for sloth bear sightings. The scrub forest around the villu is prime bear habitat — they dig for termites in the sandy soil, and the fruiting trees attract them seasonally. Leopards are present but less reliably sighted than at Thalawila. Elephants pass through the northern sector regularly, sometimes in large herds. The birdlife is distinct from the rest of the park — forest species dominate, with the endemic Sri Lanka junglefowl, crimson-fronted barbets, and Malabar pied hornbills commonly seen. During the dry season, the villu attracts a surprising variety of waterbirds despite its remote location.
