Wildlife Photography on Safari: Camera Gear and Field Techniques

For wildlife photography on safari, a camera with good high-ISO performance is more important than ultra-high megapixel counts. Shutter priority mode is recommended for wildlife. Use 1/500s minimum for stationary animals, 1/1000s+ for active subjects. Aperture priority at f/5.6-f/8 balances depth of field with light gathering. Auto ISO with a maximum of 3200-6400 ensures sharp images in variable light.

In Wilpattu, the villus create natural foreground interest. Include reflections in your compositions. The dappled light through the canopy can create dramatic spotlight effects on animals. For leopard portraits, focus on the eyes and use a wide aperture for background blur. Patience is the most important compositional tool.
