Pugmark
The footprint of an animal, especially a big cat like a leopard. Our guides are experts at tracking fresh pugmarks to find wildlife.
Villus
Natural, rain-fed lakes or basins that are a unique feature of Wilpattu National Park. These are hotspots for spotting wildlife, as animals gather here to drink.
Game Drive
An excursion by vehicle into a wildlife park or reserve to observe animals in their natural habitat. Our game drives are led by experienced naturalists.
Safari Jeep
A rugged, typically 4x4 vehicle modified for wildlife viewing, often with tiered seating and an open top for better visibility.
Naturalist
A guide with expert knowledge of the local flora, fauna, and ecosystem. Our naturalists interpret animal behavior and the environment to provide a deeper safari experience.
DWC
The Department of Wildlife Conservation, the government authority responsible for protecting and managing Sri Lanka's national parks and wildlife.
Endemic Species
A plant or animal species that is native to a single defined geographic location, such as Sri Lanka.
Sloth Bear
A nocturnal, shaggy-coated bear species found in the Indian subcontinent. Wilpattu is one of the best places in the world to see them.
